Phases of the Moon
What is the current moon phase?
Here is my absolute favorite phases of the moon website. It was made by the same group that made the interactive seasons website, so it will look a bit familiar. Be sure to check on the diagram options -- using the options makes the website much more interesting.
This animation shows the position of the sun, earth and moon as it orbits around the Earth. It shows how the moon actually looks and lists the various phases.
This site is another animation of moon phases.
Eclipses
Where would the sun, Earth and moon need to be for a solar eclipse to occur? What moon phase is necessary? What moon phase would be needed for a lunar eclipse to occur?
NEWS from NASA
NASA has photo gallery. Most of the photos are quite impressive. Click on the little pictures beneath the large picture to view them.
Chandra is the name of the satellite that takes pictures of x-ray waves in space. Check out the amazing pictures from these three satellites: Chandra, Hubble, and Kepler websites. Each one "sees" a different kind of wave. The Kepler just launched March 6, 2009. There aren't photos of deep space yet, but you may want to keep an eye on this site.
InSight: Lands on Mars
The Mars Rover lands on Mars! This is an amazing video of the Mars Rover traveling to Mars and landing.
Mars Exploration Rovers page has lots of cool information.
NASA Space Place for Kids, the NASA Kids Club, and the NASA STEM for K-4 have lots of activities for kids.
Don't forget to look at the International Space Station (ISS)! You can see the current view from the ISS.
How does the space station work? Check out this cool video about how the astronauts actually live there. They even discuss the bathroom up there.
A different way to think about the ISS... Living in Space: Designing a Space Station.
As requested, here's a link to the weather on the sun.
